Abbott Diabetes Care's (ADC) FreeStyle InsuLinx blood glucose monitoring system has joined the company of some of the world's most cutting-edge technologies. The product received the prestigious, internationally renowned Plus X Award for "Best Product of the Year" in the Health segment, along with awards in the "Innovation" and "Ease of Use" categories.
The Plus X Award is a "seal of approval" that honors the world's most innovative products with the best performance features in the technology, sport and lifestyle industries.
FreeStyle InsuLinx is ADC's first blood glucose monitor to feature a touch-screen interface, automated logbook, personalization preferences, and USB connectivity for plug-and-play reports – all designed to improve patients' diabetes management experience.
The particular version of FreeStyle InsuLinx that was recognized with a Plus X Award is approved in some European Union countries and offers a built-in mealtime insulin calculator for determining suggested insulin doses. A different version of the product recently received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration in the United States.
About the Plus X Award
The Plus X Award distinguishes products that are innovative and viable for the future and that possess at least one "Plus X" factor – the additional value of a product.
Plus X Award seals of approval are presented in seven different categories: Innovation, High Quality, Design, Ease of Use, Functionality, Ergonomics and Ecology. The "Best Product of the Year" award goes to the product that receives more individual category seals of approval than other comparable products.
Award nominees are judged by a panel of more than 130 renowned industry experts and trade journalists from 32 countries.
Past award winners include Apple's iPhone 4S, Range Rover's Evoque sport utility vehicle, Mercedes-Benz's SLS AMG sports car, Dyson's DC37 Ball vacuum cleaner, and Casio's Exilim TRYX digital camera.
